Satinwood commode sold for £5,000
The Thomas Adams salerooms reports a packed attendance for last Tuesday's furniture sale, at which a satinwood commode dating from the very start of this century fetched £5,000, exactly mid-point of its estimate. Among 19th-century items, both a walnut and marquetry breakfront side cabinet and a mahogany D-end table with two extra leaves made £2,700, a satinwood two-tier etagere fetched £2,400 and a walnut pier cabinet made £1,800.
Leading price of £3,600 for Georgian dining table
The top price of £3,600 was realised for a Georgian concertina-action dining table at September's auction conducted by Herman & Wilkinson of Dublin. A Georgian grandfather clock by Dublin maker George Walker made £3,500, a mid-19th-century bookcase fetched £3,000, a later Victorian dining table went under the hammer for £1,900, a French 19th-century ormolu mantle clock sold for £1,550 and a seven-piece Chippendale-style dining suite realised £1,500.
