Mahogany side-tables fetch £14,000 sterling

Prices at a recent sale at Mount Pleasant, Belfast, included £14,000 for a pair of mahogany and inlaid side-tables dating from circa 1790 and £3,400 for an early 19th-century circular, gilt-framed, convex mirror. In the sale, conducted by local auctioneer John Ross & Co, a Georgian inlaid mahogany, serpentine-fronted sideboard sold for £3,200, an Edwardian mahogany four-door corner cabinet made £3,000, a Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase, with astragal glazing, fetched £2,900 and a Georgian inlaid mahogany bowfront chest of drawers went for £2,600. All these prices are in sterling.

Set of 10 Carden dessert spoons sold for £1,300

A set of 10 Cork bright-cut dessert spoons by Terry Carden sold for £1,300 at the Adams salerooms in Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Tuesday. Among other lots of Irish silver, a George III wine coaster made in Dublin by William Doyle in 1817 sold for £660.

From the furniture section a Victorian mahogany long-case clock fetched £1,450, a George IV gilt compartmented overmantle went under the hammer for £1,300 and a George III mahogany secretaire chest realised £940.

Henry oil of Connemara fetches £15,400 sterling

The Paul Henry oil, Peat Stacks Connemara, which came up for sale at an auction house in Shrewsbury earlier this month, sold for £15,400 sterling. The painting, which had a pre-sale estimate of £9,000-£11,000, was bought by a private bidder.
