THE human remains found at Ballynahinch, Co Down, have been identified by the RUC as Andrew Spence, a Belfast teenager who went missing in 1989.

His remains were found on Monday at a landfill site at Ballynahinch in a load which had been taken by lorry from a Belfast city centre construction site. They were discovered as the load was being dumped.

The youth from east Belfast, who was 17 years old when he went missing, was last seen in the Shaftesbury Square area of the city on December 23rd, 1989. It is believed he was injured in a fight a short time earlier and may have suffered a head wound.

The building site, near the new Laganbank concert hall, and the landfill site were sealed off for forensic examination.
