A William IV Irish library bookcase, 10ft wide by 8ft 6 ins high, carries the highest furniture estimate (€14,000-€18,000) at Sheppards auction in Durrow, Co Laois next Tuesday at 2pm.
The sale of over 600 lots of antique furniture, paintings, porcelain and collectables includes a George III bureau bookcase with secret compartments, c. 1780, (€5,000-€7,000); a Louis XV kingwood commode with original grey and white mottled marble top (€5,000-€8,000); a George III cylinder desk, c. 1790 (€4,000-€6,000); and a George II long case clock with an eight-day movement (€3,000-€4,000).
Among the smaller lots are a Regency pen and ink stand with a concealed drawer by Edwards and Jones of London (€800-€1,200); and a George III stick barometer by Lake of Taunton, 1775-1800 (€1,500-€2,500).
