Essentially a reference book about 1916, this starts with dates and times of events during Easter Week and continues with orders, countermands, speeches, proclamations, manifestos and letters. It then delves into weapons used on both sides and lists the 11 British Army barracks in Dublin. There is information about gun running, the organisations involved, the names and garrisons of all rebels (including women), garrison strengths of, and positions occupied by, both sides, and lists of all the dead. In the case of the Irish, it indicates where they fell. There are last letters and statements of the signatories. A serious omission is Roger Casement’s speech from the dock in London. There are also prisoner lists, deportation lists and information on medals. It is a handy first tool for historians as well as 1916 obsessives.
