The latest book in the Irish Times Book Club is Christine Dwyer Hickey’s The Lives of Women, a novel that explores the loneliness of women in 1970s suburbia and in the present day.
The Lives of Women begins as 49-year-old Elaine Nichols returns to her father’s house and looks back on a tragic event that took place in their cul-de-sac when she was 16.
The author joins Laura Slattery and readers Sorcha Hamilton and David Joyce in our Tara Street studio to read an extract from the book, discuss her motivations for writing it and explain why some things will always be left unsaid.
