FORTHCOMING AUCTIONS
A NUMBER of pieces of Irish furniture are included in an auction which Christie's is holding in its London salesrooms early next month. Possibly the finest lot is an Irish Regency mahogany and rosewood circular breakfast table, its moulded circular cross-banded top above a turned baluster support on fluted scrolled legs. Expected to make £10,000-£15,000, it is stamped Williams & Gibton, the Dublin cabinet-making firm established in 1803.
A Regency mahogany serving table by Gillingtons of Dublin, with inverted breakfront rectangular top and acanthus-scrolled lion-feet legs, carries an estimate of £5,000-£8,000 and an Irish Regency mahogany chest with bowfront is estimated at £1,200-£1,800.
A pair of Irish walnut and cobalt blue glass-framed mirrors, formerly owned by the Earl of Ranfurley of Northland House, Dungannon, are estimated to make £7,000-£10,000. Also in the auction are a pair of Irish George 111 mahogany bedside commodes, £5,000-£10,000; an Irish Regency mahogany whatnot reading table by Gillingtons £2,500-£4,000; and a 1757 framed embossed painting of a Chinese cock and hen by Samuel Dixon, and signed by one of his apprentices, Gustavus Hamilton, £800-£1,200.
The sale will take place on Thursday, February 6th, starting at 10.30 a.m.
