The third former member of the Blue Funk collective to show at the Project is Brian Hand, whose installation, Threefold Prediction, occupies the Project's two gallery spaces before breaking into a storeroom at the rear of the premises.

A film loop in the main room features movie representations of lottery draws, immensely formalised rituals which manage to marry showbiz glitz with dreary bureaucracy and even a hint of religion. Nearby, an enlarged black-and-white photograph is accompanied by a soundtrack which drifts between disjointed incantation and coded message.

Hanging in the next room are some photocopies featuring casino dice. The smallest room, accessed through a hole broken in the breeze-block wall, seems to offer a culmination of sorts. It contains a card giving instructions on a specific, but highly obscure, use of a disconnected phone.

The installation seems to lead from a very public event to the scene of what is an intentionally private exchange, transacted in a secret chamber with the atmosphere of a grubby interrogation room. By way of this difficult journey, Hand seems to point to an unhappy space where familiar social codes have been slowly replaced by the arcane rules of games of chance and of espionage.
