An article on the Comptroller and Auditor General's Report in last Friday's editions said the Millennium Committee had paid a grant of £133,750 for the Liffey Boardwalk project "without any invoices or architects' certificates being submitted by the company building the structure, Mile Atha Cliath Teo".
In fact, the C & AG's report referred to Mile Atha Cliath Teo, a partnership company established by Dublin Corporation, as having "fronted" the project. We have been asked by Pierse Contracting Ltd, the company which is actually building the boardwalk, to state that its contract, which is with Dublin Corporation, is strictly in accordance with the conditions of contract of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland and the company has no connection with Mile Atha Cliath Teo.
In the Guide to the Arts in last Saturday's Weekend supplement, a wrong date was given for an event at the Irish Writers' Centre. American writers Chris Agee, Michael Donaghy and Dan Tobin will discuss their work with Irish poets Peter Fallon and Harry Clifton at the centre on Friday next, October 6th, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
