Senator Mary Henry has asked us to correct an error she made in a letter published on Tuesday, October 19th, under the heading "An Unhealthy State". It was incorrect to state that "approximately 1,600 women die from breast cancer each year in the Republic"; in fact, the figure of 1,600 refers to the approximate number of new cases of breast cancer recorded each year.

A report in Tuesday's (October 10th) newspaper erroneously included the late Sir John Esmonde among the attendance at a Parnell function in Avondale, Co Wicklow.

Where errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as practicable.
