A remark attributed to Dr Pauline Faughnan in the article headed "Study finds record on refugees compares badly" in the editions of Tuesday, October 31st, said the Republic "was a favoured destination [for asylum-seekers] because of our social welfare or the Celtic Tiger, but while the numbers have risen it was from a very low base, so it's a question of catching up rather than leading the field at this stage." This should have read that: "It is often perceived that Ireland is a favoured destination because of our social welfare or the Celtic Tiger . . ." The error occurred in the editing process.

Where errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as practicable.
