The headline on a page one report in yesterday's editions stated incorrectly that an unpublished Government review urged privatisation of fishery protection and air-sea rescues. As stated in the report, the review advises against privatising non-military services. The error occurred in the editing process.

It was stated in yesterday's editions in an article entitled "Dissident IRA may have bomb role" that the INLA was responsible for shooting dead one of its own members, Mr Cyril Stewart. The reference was to another man shot in west Belfast on April 17th and not Mr Stewart, a retired RUC officer, who was murdered in Armagh on March 27th last. This error is regretted.

A comment that the present provisions allowing vexatious appeals to An Bord Pleanala "are not tight enough" was wrongly attributed to Diarmuid Collins, secretary of the board, in yesterday's commercial property section. The remark was, in fact, made by John Graby of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland.

When errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as it is practicable.
