A report in Wednesday's editions said incorrectly that train-drivers had been offered lump sums averaging £27,500 in compensation for lost earnings as a result of new work arrangements. The amount, which was based on a misunderstanding of the figures supplied by Iarnrod Eireann, relates to the current average pay per year of drivers.

Iarnrod Eireann states that, in fact, under the formula recommended by the Labour Court for calculating compensation for loss of earnings, the average payment, based on current earnings, would be approximately £6,000, with less than a third of the drivers qualifying for compensation.

A photograph of the wrong John Browne TD accompanied an item which referred to John Browne, Fianna Fail TD for Wexford, in yesterday's news digest on page 1. The picture showed John Browne, Fine Gael TD for Carlow-Kilkenny.

The review in Wednesday's editions of the NSO concert in the National Concert Hall last Friday was incomplete. The last paragraph which began "Each moment was delicately etched . . ." referred to Beethoven's Symphony No 2, not to the Mendelssohn concerto which was the subject of the previous paragraph.
