A report on the Police (Northern Ireland) Order on July 20th stated the Order extended the life of the Police Authority and renewed legislation on emblems, flags and recruitment. The Order did not extend the life of the Police Authority but substituted it for the Policing Board only in relation to regulations for new trainees. The Order did not make legislation on flags, emblems and recruitment but made a technical amendment guaranteeing any such legislation would be debated at Westminster before coming into force.
