He will lead Prezens, a quartet that is, in effect, a supergroup; completing an adventurous lineup are Tim Berne (saxophones), Craig Taborn (keyboards) and the great Tom Rainey (drums).

This is the quartet that made the acclaimed ECM release of the same name in 2005, a dark, turbulent, varied and often densely textured approach to improvisation, using both the group’s instrumental gifts and electronica for the narrative aural canvases he devised.

Torn, a restless and innovative musician, who has collaborated with artists as varied as Jan Garbarek, David Bowie and Tori Amos, has surrounded himself with kindred spirits, so this will be no safe exploration of well- worn themes. They will be at the Triskel in Cork (Wednesday) and Whelans in Dublin (Thursday).
