AN acoustic disc of James Joyce reading the Aeolus passage from his own Ulysses is to be sold at Christie's salesrooms in London next Wednesday, when it is expected to fetch £5,000-£8,000. The 12 inch acoustic recording is in mint condition and is one of 30 pressings, from Joyce's only recording of this work, his other recital preserved on disc is of Anna Livia PlurabeUe.

Made in November 1924 the Ulysses recording was produced as a private venture by Sylvia Beach, who was responsible for publishing the book-two years earlier. None of the eventual copies went on sale, but - other than two retained by Beach were given to Joyce for distribution among his family and friends. One such copy is now owned by Trinity College, Dublin.
