Horse Meat Disco
Strut
****
Exhilarating hedonism, a modicum of extravagant exhibitionism, and oodles of fantastic sounds have helped Horse Meat Disco prance to the top of the disco revivalism heap. Not that James Hillard and Jim Stanton's thriller, which plays out both in seedy, blacked-out London boozers and festival tents, deal in common-or-garden mirrorballs. Their disco delights are dusty grooves of the finest kind, obscure nuggets that will send dancers back in time to David Mancuso's Loft or Nick Siano's Gallery. The compilation is both euphoric and classy, a set of tunes with a right razzle-dazzle rattle to them. Consider the soaring panache of Plaza's Got My Dancing Shoes, the frantic, murderously infectious stomp of K.I.D.'s Hupendi Muziki Wangu?! (You Don't Like Music) and the strung-out majesty of Richard Hewson Orchestra's Shark Bit. This horse meat is funky, fabulous and hugely moreish. www. horsemeatdisco.co.uk
