Spoonfeeder is a disturbing piece of work, a six-minute looped video, in which the hand of an unseen adult continually tries to spoon-feed a recalcitrant infant. The infant is in fact an eerily lifelike latex sculpture, made by Dutch artist Danielle Kraay, which adds to the mood of unease and strangeness. The video is the first collaborative effort by Kraay and her partner, writer and contributor to these pages, Mic Moroney, and it is included among several of her works currently on exhibition in a group show at New York City's Exit Gallery.
The format of the show involved 13 established artists, including Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley and Cindy Sherman, selecting younger artists and inviting them to display their work. Kraay's sculptural installations caught the eye of Austrian artist Gottfried Hellwein. The couple has several other video pieces at various stages of development.
