ADAMS of Blackrock, Dublin, are holding an auction on their premises next Monday of a large number of paintings by familiar names on the Irish scene, writes Robert O Byrne.

Among the highlights are a number of oils by James Le Jeune, including two Dublin streets capes (both carrying estimates of £3,500-£4,500), an oil called Woman with Seaweed by Charles Lamb (£1,400-£1,800), The Potato Man by George Russell (£3,500-£4,500), Cattle Grazing, Mourne Mountains by Frank McKelvey (£4,000-£4,500) and a canvas by Daniel O'Neill called The Answer (£3,000-£4,000). Also likely to do well are two Flora Mitchell watercolours of Dublin, valued at £700-£800 and £500-£600.

A small selection of furniture in the same auction includes an Edwardian satinwood breakfront bookcase, estimated to make £3,500-4,500, and a Regency satinwood sofa table which carries the same valuation.

A handsome pair of early 19th century satin wood side tables, each with a D shaped top, cross banded with harewood and rose wood, carry the evening stop price of £10,000-£15,900. Both a George III mahogany bachelor's chest and a Louis Philipye kingwood and ormolu bureau pint come with more modest estimates of £2,500-£3,500.
