DJ Kicks!K7
There's little time for sleep in Kieran Hebden's world. Were it not enough that his days are filled with ongoing Four Tet activities, Hebden also finds space for his ongoing collaborations with jazz drumer Steve Reid (the most recent album, The Exchange Session, Volume 2, has just gone on release) and such one-off activities as this DJ Kicks release. Hebden has form in the mix-tape department, and his Late Night Tales from two years ago remains a treasure trove of other music and out-there symphonies. For his DJ Kicks set, Hebden is just as choice with his selections, finding room for an old-school hip-hop shiner from Group Home, the warped sonicware ofMadvillan and such unique visions as Gong, Cabaret Voltaire and Animal Collective. There's even a brand new Four Tet cut (Pockets) clattering into view on the back of some retro-sounding synths. Delightful.
