CIRCLESQUARE
Songs About Dancing and Drugs
!K7***

It seems that every electronic music producer on the planet has moved to Berlin to find their mojo. Jeremy Shaw has joined them. He's the Canadian whose previous Circlesquare releases appeared on Trevor Jackson's Output imprint, with his previous album Pre-Earthquake Anthemappearing in 2003. His new album, Songs About Dancing and Drugs, tips the hat to Talking Heads in more than just a titular way, with Shaw and his assembled band displaying a likable ability to craft spooky, spacey, sleazy, discombobulated grooves and sounds that get beneath your skin. Shaw's vocals add to the sense of alienation. Tracks such as the sparse rave-blues of Timely, the commanding Music For Satellitesand the small-hours unease of All Live But the Endinghint that just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. www.songsaboutdancinganddrugs.com
