CARL CRAIG
Sessions !K7 ****

When Detroit innovator Carl Craig puts his name to a track, you can be sure of certain hallmarks. You always get a certain tone to the sound, a masterful cut to the groove and a classical vision of how to turn a piece of electronic music into an emotional symphony. There's all this and more on this wide-ranging compilation of Craig's past productions and remixes. It's always about soul with Craig, those moments when a groove takes flight and turns into a glittering space-age jam (Paperclip People's Throw) or a buzzing dancefloor call to arms (the outlandish drama he oozes from tweaking the bejaysus out of Faze Action's In the Trees). While there are one or two seminal mixes to add to those on this double-CD set - his treatment of Incognito's Out of the Storm, for instance, is ecstatic in reach and execution - this really is as good as these compilations get. www.my space.com/carlcraig
