A FINE 18th century stick barometer by Dollard of London was the top selling lot at an Adams auction last Tuesday, making £3,000 under the hammer.

Barometers of this quality and design do not often come on the Irish market, and there was keen interest in this particular piece, which has a very handsome mahogany case. Two bidders competed in the room, trade versus private, but eventually it was sold to a telephone bidder from England.

In the same sale a Victorian walnut credenza with glazed bow fronted doors made £1,575; a mahogany pedestal desk fetched £1,200; a set of mid 19th century dining chairs sold for £1,175; and a George IV mahogany, circular dining table, with a rosewood crossbanded top, made £1,100.

A large Victorian rocking horse sold for £580 and an Art Deco, four piece silver tea service, 49ozs in weight and made in Birmingham in 1933, sold for £510.
