Equivalents is described as stage paintings from the art of Georgia O'Keeffe, the US painter. Taking two of her works as inspiration, it is produced and directed by Martin Boroson and the Temenos Project, a collective in search of "a new performance language based on Eastern and Western modes of expression". The Winter Road is a fascinating and challenging piece, combining the talents of Irish performers with those of Akira Matsui, a Japanese Noh master. Noh has been described as the art of walking, and each movement, sound and step of Matsui is imbued with meaning and a lifetime's experience. His journey from animal to human to god is profound. Music - Pink and Blue is a delicate Butoh dance by Naomi Mutoh. The piece is quite beautiful, almost excessively so, as Mutoh emerges like a flower in bloom. Although one longs for a moment of contrast and darkness, Equivalents shows a great deal of work in development and design, and its imagery lingers quietly in the mind.
