- Piano man performs:Elton John will perform his Red Piano show in Dublin on October 30th. The Las Vegas-style extravaganza features visuals, sculptures and a light show created by photographer David LaChapelle. Tickets go on sale next Thursday.

- Novello nominees:Elbow, MIA and Coldplay are among the Ivor Novello Award nominees announced this week. The accolade rewards song- writers. Little-known band The Leisure Societyalso picked up a nomination for their song The Last of the Melting Snow.

- Galaxie quest:Dublin band Le Galaxie have been invited to play at Swedish festival Popadelica ahead of their debut EP, Transworld, out on May 15th.

- Minimalist Pulitzer:Steve Reich has won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his composition, Double Sextet. The 72-year-old minimalist innovator has been a reference point for the likes of Brian Eno and The Orb.
