Irish film in directors’ run-off

Two steps forward. One step back

Two steps forward. One step back. Following Kathryn Bigelow's triumph at this year's Oscars, it is sobering to note that there is not one female director in line for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. There is thus all the more reason to savour the appearance of Alicia Duffy's All Good Children(co-produced by the Irish Film Board) in the Directors' Fortnight section.

Having, in recent years, given its top award to such superbly off-beat films as Dogtoothand Tulpan, that strand can reasonably claim to be funkier than the official competition.
