REEL NEWS: As you should be aware by now, Bridesmaidsturned out to be the biggest film of 2011 in the Republic of Ireland. The comedy didn't do quite so well in other territories, but it still took in a fairly huge €220 million.

Talk has inevitably turned to a sequel. According to Universal Pictures, “we are talking to film-makers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we’ll move forward”. But word is creeping out that the film may have to progress without the participation of Kristen Wiig, who starred and co-wrote the script with Annie Mumolo.

"We aren't working on that," Wiig told the Hollywood Reporterwhen quizzed about a follow-up. "Annie and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else."

Really? Wouldn't this be akin to making a sequel to Jawswithout including a shark? Oh well. They might still work it out.
