OVER 150 cases and bottles of wine from the Coq Hardi restaurant will be among the lots at James Adam's sale of fine wines, port and cigars next Wednesday.

Many of the bottles from the Coq Hardi show smoke damage from the fire that gutted the restaurant last December. However, wine expert Martin Moran from Gilbeys was called in to taste and test the Coq Hardi wine and he deemed it all good and drinkable, as viewers will see from his notes in the catalogue. Bottles with smoke stained labels will be virtually unsaleable to other restaurateurs, so private buyers may get some bargains. In all, there are 370 lots, with bottles from the top wine estates, including Chateau Latour, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Palmer and Chateau Lynch Bages. Cases range in estimates from £50 to £4,000 and individual bottles from £20 to £400.

A case of 1978 Chateau Petrus is estimated at £1,800-£2,200, while bottles of Pefrus from several years, including 1956 and 1982, may sell for £500 each. Lots of cigars and vintage port will also be sold.

Viewing begins tomorrow afternoon from 2.30 p.m.-4.30 p.m.
