Professor Peter O'Brien plays a very special concert on Tuesday at the National Concert Hall. He celebrates 100 years since the birth of his father John by tracing the movement of the music from father to son. The violinist Geraldine O'Grady will evoke memories of Fritz Kreisler, tenor Emmanuel Lawler will remember the McCormack years, and Eamon Morrisey will present a tribute to Myles na gCopaleen, a great friend of O'Brien's father - 01-4751572 . . . This evening marks the opening, at the Park Lodge Hotel, Spiddal, Go Galway, of a two-day conference on the arts in the Gaeltacht, with speakers including Peigi Ni Chonghaile of Plearaca Chonamara, Dermot Mc Loughlin of the Arts Council, the poet Cathal O Searcaigh and Fiach Mac Chonghail, of Expo 2000 - 075-60100/091- 503100/026-45366/066-9150100 . . . The only qualification for participating in the international art competition hosted by the Child Art Museum in Varby, Huddinge, Sweden, is that you be young - and talented, of course. The age categories for entry are: seven years, seven-nine years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years, and 15 years and older. Send your drawings, paintings, graphics etc, unframed, with your name, age, sex and address on the back, as well as the name and address of your teacher and school and the title and technique of the art work, to The International Child Art Museum, Varby, Alle 14, Box 3045, 14303 Varby, Sweden, to arrive no later than December 31st. The works won't be returned, but will be held by the museum . . . The Mexican artist Alfonso Monreal is artist in residence at the Ulster Museum, Belfast and is hosting a family workshop on how to make a traditional "pinata", or papiermache shape filled with sweets, on Sunday, December 5th at 1 p.m., admission free.
