As is usual at this time of year, a number of courses are offered to students interested in learning more about fine art and antiques. One of the best-known of these is organised by the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute and held on its premises at 38 Merrion Square, Dublin.

Beginning on September 25th, the introductory course runs on every second Tuesday until early December, when it concludes with an antiques roadshow. Fully illustrated lectures are given by a wide variety of experts and further information is available from the IAVI, telephone 01-6611794.

Meanwhile, at UCD, a new evening course called "Antiques Today: An Essential Guide" begins on October 1st and continues every Monday night over eight weeks on the university's Belfield campus.
