Cork Georgian house's contents to be sold

The contents of Carrigrohane House, a Georgian property situated to the west of Cork city, will be offered for sale by auctioneers Lynes & Lynes at Ashbourne House Hotel, Cork, next Tuesday. Also in this sale will be a number of items from a religious house in east Cork.

Lots include a set of eight Regency rosewood dining chairs (estimate £4,000-£6,000), a 19th-century hall table with carved lion supports (£3,500-£4,500), a large Irish Georgian mahogany sideboard (£3,000-£4,000), a 19th-century mahogany dining table (£2,000-£3,000), a 19th-century convex mirror with candle sconces and a Georgian mahogany writing bureau (both £1,500-£2,000).

John Ross & Co of Belfast has 225 entries in next Tuesday's sale of Irish art, with work by Northern Irish painters predominant. Typical in this respect are several William O'Conor pictures, which show life in Belfast earlier this century and two examples of Daniel O'Neill's art - one a portrait of a young women and the other a view of two children in a landscape.

McKelvey, Wilks, Craig, Gillespie and McAuley are all represented, as is Ernest Hanford, a little-known Ulster artist, nine of whose watercolour bogland scenes, reminiscent of Percy French, will be offered for sale.

Oriental carpets from China to Iran on offer

Herman & Wilkinson of Rathmines, Dublin, is offering a collection of oriental carpets for sale next Wednesday evening on behalf of Bickenstaff & Knowles. The collection is made up of a wide variety of styles and sizes, representing regions as diverse as Iran and China. Among the lots for auction are kilims, runners and carpets. The auction starts at 7 p.m.

Ornamental sideboard for £2,500-plus

Mullen Bros of Oldcastle, Co Meath, is to hold an auction in its salerooms next Tuesday when a William IV ornamental twin-pedestal sideboard is expected to sell for £2,000-£2,500, as is an early 19th-century three-door bookcase, while a Regency mahogany double-end sofa carries an estimate of £1,000-£1,500.
