Film memorabilia gets top billing
Movie memorabilia and children's books will be among the items on offer at tomorrow's antiques and collectables fair at Newman House in Dublin. Specialist Jim Magill is expected to have more than 300 cinema posters from the 1950s and 1960s, including examples from High Noon, The Dirty Dozen and Mary Poppins. He will also be offering a large quantity of children's books, including first editions of Billy Bunter, William and Eleanor Brent Dyer's Chalet School novels. Other stands at the fair will be showing stamps and postcards, old legal and commercial papers, antique silver and porcelain, jewellery, linen and prints.
Antiquarian and Irish books on offer in Dalkey
The New Heritage Centre in Dalkey, Co Dublin, is the venue for a book fair tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m. A total of 15 stands will be selling antiquarian, Irish, art and general-interest books.
National Book Fair moves to the RDS
The National Book Fair, usually held in Dublin's Masonic Hall, moves to a new venue on Sunday, September 13th, when it takes place at the RDS. Book dealers from throughout the State are expected to participate in the event, with Schull Books from west Cork offering a selection of works illustrated by Lionel Edwards, as well as a catalogue of the 1935 10-day sale of Kilkenny Castle's contents. In addition to books, prints, maps, postcards and other printed material, the fair will feature for the first time a number of stamp exhibitors, such as Michael Giffney and Jim Ryan. The fair runs from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Tramore antiques event to be held next week
The 28th Tramore antiques fair will be held in the town's Grand Hotel from next Wednesday to Friday. Exhibitors at the event will include Carol O'Connor, Patrick Fitzgerald, Marie Curran, R.J. Keighery, Nora Lucey and Breda Murphy.
