SUNDAY auctions are becoming increasingly popular, especially with private buyers who work during the week and cannot get away to view sales, or to spend an entire day in an auction room waiting for their number to come up.
It is just this sort of buyer that Upper Court Manor Antiques in Dublin will be looking for on Sunday, March 3rd, when it holds an auction on the premises. And to make the buyers feel sufficiently relaxed to buy, the auction room will be heated and there will be refreshments on tap.
Nicky Keenan has gathered together a good selection of furniture, silver, porcelain, lamps and clocks.
Three hundred lots will go under the hammer, with a strong emphasis on furniture of small proportions to suit smaller houses and townhouses. The lots include a nice Georgian inlaid card table, estimated at £2,000 - £2,500, and an Edwardian marquetry display cabinet, which could fetch up to £4,000. There are a number of longcase clocks, estimated at between £2,000 and £2,500, and several overmantel mirrors.
There will also be a number of marble chimneypieces for sale, including a white marble chimneypiece from Cambally Castle in Co Tipperary, which has an estimate at £5,000-£7,000.
The sale contents will be on view next Friday and Saturday, as well as on the morning of the sale.
