Honouring Phil Lynott's 60th

Yesterday marked what would have been the 60th birthday of Phil Lynott

Yesterday marked what would have been the 60th birthday of Phil Lynott. The legendary performer was born on August 20th, 1949, and died on January 4th, 1986 from a combination of heart failure and pneumonia at the age of 36.

Several events will mark the occasion of the Crumlin native’s birthday. The Green Gallery (on the top floor of St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin 2) is hosting an exhibition (ends August 29th) of limited-edition art prints of the late singer, as well as memorabilia supplied by his mother Philomena Lynott, who will also be the guest of honour at a charity tribute night at The Stonehouse in Navan tonight.

A radio documentary, 60 Years On, will be broadcast this Sunday at 5pm on 4FM. It provides a retrospective of Lynott's life and will feature interviews with former Thin Lizzy manager Chris O'Donnell and contemporary Irish musicians influenced by Lynott, including David Geraghty of Bell X1.
