JOHN DIGWEED

Fabric 20 Fabric

***

With the law of pop hackery now stating quite clearly that "club" must always appear in print accompanied by the word "crisis", it's reassuring to note that London's Fabric is bucking that particular trend. By putting on quality club nights across several genres, the venue is quietly doing the business week in and week out. Its mix-CD series perfectly encapsulates the club's music policy, with previous releases featuring standout sets from Michael Mayer, Swayzak, Akufen and Stacey Pullen. John Digweed's mix is a fine addition to that gathering, bookmarked by two lusciously deep workouts and featuring some soaring, heady and hypnotic grooves inbetween. Digweed manages to find room for many sounds, from the subtle, stuttering funk of Rasoul's True Science to a sleazy, shifting tech-house wig-out from Billy Bellassandro. Highly satisfying.
