What you've found . . .
A reader looking for a blind for a house in Co Kerry was surprised by variations in prices for Velux products. He started at the local hardware store, which quoted him 107. Then he tried the Velux Ireland website (www.velux.ie), which offered it for 77.68, including delivery, a saving of more than 25 per cent. Next he checked Velux's Belgian site (www.velux.be), where he found the blind for €51.20, again including delivery.
He points out that buying the blind locally, in Co Kerry, would have cost more than twice as much as buying it from the Belgian website. "Who is making the killing here?" he asks. "I'd prefer to let the sun in than be ripped off to quite this extent." But for the Belgian site's Belgium-only delivery policy, "hardware merchants in Ireland would be singing a very different tune".
