In 2000, 3,805 Traveller families had accommodation at halting sites or in houses (including group houses and standard local authority housing), with 1,093 living on the roadside or at unofficial sites. This compares with 3,205 families accommodated in 1996 and 1,040 living on the roadside.

£14 million has been provided by the Government for provision of Traveller accommodation in 2001, compared with £6.5 million in 1996.

Some 595 Traveller families have been provided with accommodation since 1995. Four hundred and fifty-eight units of Traveller-specific accommodation have been refurbished during this period, with 470 families allocated standard local authority housing.
