JAKI Irvine and Alastair Mac Lennan are the artists who have been chosen to represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale, which will run from June 15th to November 4th. This year's commissioner, who chose the artists with the Cultural Relations Committee, was Fiach Mac Chonghail, Director of the Project Arts Centre.

Both Jaki Irvine and Alastair Mac Lennan are installation artists who work with video, and Mac Lennan also works with performance. Irvine, who was last year shortlisted to the IMMA/ Glen Dimplex Award, was born in Dublin and had her first solo exhibition at the Project last year. Mac Lennan was born in Scotland, but has been living and working in Belfast for 21 years. An exhibition of his work, Body Of Earth 1969-1996 was recently seen at the Project Arts Centre and he has exhibited widely in Europe and North America.
