WALL Street stocks ended mixed after sharp pullbacks in the shares of Philip Morris and Eastman Kodak dragged down the Dow.

The Dow lost 15.49 points to close at 6,804.79. Excluding Philip Morris and Eastman Kodak, which together fell the equivalent of about 45 Dow points, the blue chip barometer would have showed a gain on the day.

In broader stock measures, blue chip and larger company shares posted modest gains. But the technology laden Nasdaq market turned lower late in the day.

Stocks started the day higher as investors tried to move past the recent concerns about the Federal Reserve's policy making meeting on Tuesday.
