The Music Education Action Group, formed as a result of January's Young European Strings international symposium, "When I grow up I want to be a musician", holds its next meeting on Sunday morning at the Megeough Home, 37-39 Cowper Road, Rathmines, writes Michael Dervan. The group is currently formulating a mission statement and plans to have its final proposals ready by June 1st. The idea is to bring those proposals to all political parties in advance of the next general election. Sunday's meeting, to which all are welcome, will also be presented with a summary of public policy and achievements in music education in other European countries. A quick scan of the available information suggests that Ireland's status as the most miserly provider of music education has remained unchallenged in the years since the Arts Council report, Deaf Ears?, quantified the problem back in 1985. Sunday's meeting is at 11 a.m., and further information can be obtained from tel: 01-478 5368 (mornings only).
