The shortlist for the Meteor Choice Music Prize was announced this week, with 10 Irish albums competing for the accolade of Irish Album of the Year 2012.
It’s the first time in the prize’s eight-year history that a debut album has not been nominated, although several acts previously nominated for their debuts had their second albums shortlisted.
Three previous winners of the prize are among this year’s batch of nominees: Adrian Crowley (I See Three Birds Flying), Julie Feeney (Clocks) and Two Door Cinema Club (Beacon) will all aim to imitiate 2011 winner Jape by doing the double.
The other nominated albums are Heathers’ Kingdom, Wallis Bird’s eponymous third album, Windings’ I Am Not the Crow, Damien Dempsey’s Almighty Love, Delorentos’ Little Sparks, The Cast of Cheers’ Family, and Mumblin’ Deaf Ro’s Dictionary Crimes.
A panel of 11 media professionals will decide the winner, and the ceremony will be broadcast live from Dublin’s Vicar Street on TodayFM on March 7th. Tickets are on sale today.
