You wonder how Samia Mirza and Justin Swinburne would respond to being tickled under their arms, such is the austere, solemn, inscrutable vibe coming from their debut album.
These Americans are flawless in the seductive, woozy, low-lung R&B sound department, and Trust knows exactly where it wants to take the listener. Producers such as Butchy Fuego, Mura Masa and Heavy Feelingz assist the pair in honing the sound and scope of the album.
Lyrically they luxuriate in carnality, with the sexual themes of songs such as Forgiven, OIXU and Drawl expressed in dark, dramatic and sometimes tender colours. Occasionally they make you want to move closer, as on Crow. For the most part, though, the minimalism and atmospherics are a triumph of style over substance.
