Grand Pocket Orchestra have revealed details of their debut album exclusively to The Ticket. The Ice Creamwill be released this October and will feature 17 tracks, including the previously released Chongo Pop, as well as new songs My Lungs, Gaul and Guileand Tickly Toes.
The young Dubliners have a reputation for short, quirky DIY indie pop tunes, and have been steadily gaining plaudits since they released their first EP Odd Socks in 2008. They recently added two new band members to their ranks, and plan to play some European dates this summer.
Their new album was recorded in a small house in West Cork, with guitarist Mark Chester overseeing production. Its release will be preceded by a digital-only single, Basketballs, on May 22nd.
“We wanted to make a record that was kind of rough around the edges – somewhere between songs and ideas for the future,” said singer and guitarist Paddy McKenna. “A lot of our tracks are quite short, so we put on the best of what we felt we have right now. We wanted it to sound like a good debut album should: rough, random, cheap, and with as little polish as possible.”
