Everything changed for Animal Collective with the success of Merriweather Post Pavilion. Centipede Hz takes a flame thrower to the Merriweather sound, and in place of the blissed-out feel comes an album that is hard, gritty and coming down with art-rock clatter. And beautifully so. Today's Supernatural is a turbo-charged, almost tribal sounding post-psych rock romp that is as energetic and vital as anything they have done. Wide Eyed keeps the party going with its Tomorrow Never Comes flourishes, while Mercury Man is a pop song that has been dragged up an alley and given a good psychedelic beating.
