The ease with which Cloud Control knock out charming hooks, dashing harmonies and bouncy melodies endears you to their debut album. The four-piece from Sydney have already gathered critical plaudits at home (the album won the Australian Music Prize), while almost incessant touring has had a positive effect on the size of their fan base and, more importantly, their musical chops. As wide-eyed big pop goes, Cloud Control have a sizeable arsenal to draw on, with beautiful three- and four-part harmonies and a sparkling, sunny demeanour drawing you closer to folky, tender, brightly psychedelic songs such as Gold Canary, Ghost Story and There’s Nothing In the Water We Can’t Fight. It’s an old-fashioned and unshowy affair, but sometimes a clutch of stunning songs is all that’s required. See cloudcontrolband.com
