Cancer4Cure Turnstile****
You will probably know Jaime ‘El-P’ Meline from such alternative hip-hop adventures down through the years as running the Def Jux label and fronting the peerless Company Flow. El-P’s third solo album Cancer4Cure is an intense, impressive clarion call that reminds you of the singular attributes he brings to his trade.
Aside from a gallery of guest names – including Danny Brown stealing the show on Oh Hail No – it's El-P's superb ability to craft compelling tracks full of abrasive sonic paranoia, unsettling confusion and hard-hitting rhymes which resonates with the listener. El-P tells the tales of a bunch of have-nots, ne'er-do-wells and morally disenfranchised outcasts who've fallen between society's cracks. Like the recent Death Grips album, the belligerent, uncomfortable Cancer4Cure shows that anger can sometimes be an energy. facebook.com/therealelp
