Renegades Big Teeth Music **

RenegadesBig Teeth Music **

Feeder's last album Silent Crywas something of a regression for the Welsh trio, who flirted successfully with the mainstream in the early to mid-noughties. Album number seven seems to hark back even further to their heavy early material than its predecessor. Renegadesleaves no room for string sections or acoustic-based singalongs, instead churning out loud, swarthy rock music that bludgeons relentlessly, rather than seduces.

That's fine, too, even if songs like This Town, Homeand Call Outsound like mere Queens of the Stone Age pastiches with their rolling, fiery guitar riffs and machine-gun vocals; but it also means Grant Nicholas and co have lost a large degree of their charm. The Renegadesproject began life as an excuse for Feeder to play anonymously in small venues; with these lacklustre songs, perhaps it should have stayed as such. See feederweb.com
