E Volo Love
Domino France***
This is Francois Marry's debut release for Domino, but he and his band had three albums in the bag before E Volo Lovecame along. Marry, who taught French in Bristol and previously worked with Camera Obscura, Movietone and King Creosote's Fence label, exudes an intriguing, charming, confident sense of adventure. Between glittering Afropop guitarlines (especially to thefore on Muddy Heart), charming, ever-so-slightly twee indie jangles, Francophone airs and melancholic graces, Marry covers a multitude of sounds and shades with a restless, fizzy exuberance. Les Plus Beaux, Azrou Tuneand Piscinebenefit from Marry's spirited approach, each refreshingly offbeat, yet robust. The only weak note is Marry's rather thin voice, which fails to captivate in quite the same way as the catchy, exquisite music. francoisand theatlasmountains.com
