Little Windows Darla***
Although Little Windowscompletes a decade-long trilogy of music projects, it only features two collaborations between Budd, the father of ambient music (with Brian Eno), and former Cock Robin guitarist Wright. Of the remaining seven solo compositions, Wright's four sound collages combine electric guitar, spoken word, and found percussion to evoke the eerie desert landscape of California, at once cinematic and strange (a female voice giggling about gazelles). The 60-something minimalist's three piano compositions are vintage Budd at his austere and unadorned best, their signature tonality and warmth recalling his early ground-breaking collaborations with Eno and later projects with Akira Rabelais, and his superb recent solo albums, La Bella Vistaand Perhaps. Little Windowssuggests, paradoxically, that working together is less interesting than playing alone. See darla.com
