That's How We BurnSub Pop ****

It's easy to see why Wisconsin natives Jaill were snapped up by Sub Pop for this, their second album. That's How We Burnis a self-assured collection of indie tunes that wander into Pavement-style jangle-rock territory (On the Beat) and the sort of peppy punk kick that the Ramones refined ( She's My Baby) without ever losing sight of the quartet's own vision. The driving psychedelic shimmer of opener The Strollersounds like the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club could have been if they'd cared less about image and more about tunes, but it's the terrific Everyone's Hipthat really encapsulates this album's sunny, carefree, Weezer-meets-Lemonheads disposition. And it's breezy enough to warrant an immediate replay just as soon as its irresistibly effervescent groove ends. See jaill.net
